artSpark: a new initiative

The Diller-Von Furstenberg Family Foundation's extraordinary generosity funds a program providing art programs in recreation centers with sports programs.

This new unique initiative introduces youth to “Art around the Globe” in free workshops. The curriculum teaches about cultures from every continent of the world through drawing, painting, collage, print-making and sculpting. Different media are explored while experimenting with a variety of visual techniques to build basic skills and to expand creative expression.

"Art Around the Globe” expanded this year from six to seven sites:
Bellevue Rec Center, Cheviot Hills Rec Center, Highland Park Rec Center, Palms Park, Pecan Rec Center, Robertson Rec Center (temporarily closed for renovation), State Street Rec Center.

We returned to Silverlake Music Conservatory Summer Camp 2015, and the student bands created banners for the culminating performance of each summer camp band.
